Starting An Online Business Checklist – Step By Step To Success

starting an online business checklist, step by step,Starting an online business has been the craze for about 20 years now, however it has exploded recently. Everyone wants to start an online business and work from home. Who can blame a person for wanting the convenience of working from the comfort of home? Not having to punch a clock and answer to anyone can seem rewarding.

Many people realize that online marketing is the wave of the future for online businesses. Every successful online business has some kind of web presence tied to there bottom line. Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest, Amazon, eBay and any other web-based company, leverages the traffic they get into big bucks. Naturally, if you can tap into this traffic you can make money.

What makes me worthy of writing anything about starting an online business. In my opinion, I am the very one you need to listen to on this topic. I’m not Mark Zuckerberg, the Facebook billionaire. Neither am I Bill Gates or Steve Jobs, the founder of Microsoft and Apple respectively. Chances are you will never be like them either. For every Mark Zuckerberg and Bill Gates, there are millions of people who tried and failed. Millions who have never made a dime on the internet.starting an online business checklist, step by step

Even if you don’t end up a billionaire, hopefully, you can at least be like me.I’m a person who has made money on the information highway. Now, I can tell you how I make $100,000 a month, travel the world. and drive luxurious cars. But I won’t lie to you. I won’t sell you a dream. Is it possible to make that type of money? Yes, it is. Does it happen overnight? Probably not. It takes hard work and many hours to get to the place where your business is successful.

What I will attempt to do is show you that starting an online business is not as difficult as you may think. I will also explain how to stay away from the thousands of scams on the internet, and how to do it for the least amount of out of pocket expense possible. Then at the end, I will share with you how I make money on the web.

First Things First.

starting an online business checklist, step by stepAn online business is just like a brick and mortar business. You have to go into this with the right attitude. It will take long hours, plenty of time studying, and a ton of research before you even begin to go live with your business.

Start thinking about where you want to be 6 months to a year from now. That will eliminate the idea that you think you will become rich overnight. It will cause you to have realistic expectations and not be discouraged when you are still not getting the results you want after a few weeks.

If you don’t want to learn and gather information about how to run an online business then this isn’t for you. Understand that like any other business you need to know the ins and outs of the business to be profitable. Let me reiterate, it takes time to see a return on your business. Statics show it takes about 3 years before a business will start to see a profit. Am I saying it will take that long? No. I’m just guarding you against having unattainable expectations.

Finding Your Niche

What is a Niche? A Niche is denoting or relating to products, services, or interests that appeal to a small, specialized section of the population. (Wikipedia)

To be profitable in any online business you have to be able to identify what a specialized group of people is looking for and not a lot of businesses offer. This is the Golden Ticket of an online business. If you can accomplish this you are on your way to doing well in your business.

Any idea can be used for your business. You just have to find out what people are searching for and narrow it down to find the niche. I wrote an article on this subject a few months ago where I show you in detail how to accomplish this task. I also include a video where I find a great niche using free search software. Hosting, Servers, Domains

You will have to decipher through a bunch of different companies that can host your website. Godaddy has become the most popular right now. Make sure you read the fine print because companies will sell you the domain name for cheap but will charge you an arm and a leg to allow your site to be on their servers. I personally use Wealthy Affiliate to host all of my websites (more on that later).

Domain name rules!

  • Keep it simple.
  • Keep it short.
  • Don’t make it too long.
  • Try to keep it a .com
  • And most of all make it something that pertains to your niche.

The reason for these rules is to keep you from spending hours trying to come up with the right name. Visitors to your site are not concerned with what your web address is. As long as it has something to do with your niche. If your niche is baking, your domain name should not be “www.vaporrules”. You also don’t want it to be www.bakinggirlscoutcookiesforthesummer.com.

If you can’t find the domain name you want in .com change it. Don’t be so attached to your name that you go with a .gov, .info, .org, or .ws. Dotcom is an industry standard. Your customers are more familiar with it and it has a professional feel to it.

Build Your Website

This by far is the most important aspect of your business. Now that you have your business name and your site up and running you have to get people to visit you. This where you will succeed or fail. If no one knows that you are open for business and they don’t know what products you carry then you are fighting a losing battle.

Now that you have your domain name, you need to build your website. This part can be tricky and if you are not comfortable with coding it can be downright scary. There are companies that will build you a website for a fee. The amount varies by company. But expect to pay anywhere from $500 – $1000 for a simple site.

Don’t get discouraged there are other alternatives as well. You can use websites like Fiverr to have someone build you a website for relatively cheap. You can also do it your self. I built all of my sites myself. The more you do it the better you become. WordPress has become my go-to web builder, they are very easy to follow along and have plenty of tutorials to help you along.

This will be where you will spend most of your time, figuring out what you want your online presence to be. Once you have your site finished you will just have to maintain it for the rest of your time online.

Writing Content

This by far is the most important aspect of your business. Now that you have your business name and your site up and running you have to get people to visit you. This where you will succeed or fail. If no one knows that you are open for business and they don’t know what products you carry then you are fighting a losing battle.

Content, content, content. Ths part of the process can be very intimidating to new business owners. Writing is not a strong suit for some people. I know it is not for me. But once you learn that people are not concerned with your writing skills as much as they are concerned with you meeting there need, you will be less stressed about writing content. Writing articles about your niche is very important. You have to engage your customer’s interest in what you are offering on your site.

If you are worried about grammar and spelling, the computer age has taken care of that. There are plenty of grammar programs that can help you with any grammar issues. I personally use Grammarly, it has saved me many of times.

Search Engines

Ninety-seven percent of all new customers you get online will use a search engine to find you. There are three major search engines, Google, Bing, and Yahoo. Google has a 70% share of the market and bing and yahoo share the rest. We will focus on getting ranked in Google. but the process is the same for Bing and Yahoo as well.

Getting ranked on Google search engine is not easy. This is where finding the right keywords will be vital. Here is a free ebook that goes into detail on how to get ranked on Google and other search engines. It will also talk about how to effectively to use Google AdWords and Bingads to increase traffic to your site.

Search engine traffic may be the best way to drive visitors to your site but it is not the only way. Social media has become the way to organically promote your online business. Facebook has a billion users who use their platform. You can post a link to your site on any social media you have an account for. Instagram, Twitter, Pinterest and the rest are great avenues to bring brand awareness. Here is a video on how to get ranked number one on Pinterest.

Your Now Live

How I Make Money Online!

I am very grateful to be able to make money online. I realize that the majority of people who endeavor to start a business online will fail. The number one reason I believe people fail is they don’t have the support that is necessary to succeed. Very few people who have made it in business did it by themselves. I’m no different. I attempted many times and failed at starting an online business. The difference this time is the support I received.

This is why I am passionate about helping as many people as I can be successful. I have helped many people build their businesses online. I was tired of seeing all the ads on social media claiming to show the new secret of making money online. Then after I investigated and sat through webinars and phone calls only to find that they wanted huge sums of money to get started. I decided that if I ever found anything real that I would help.

If you would like me to coach you on getting your business started and share with you how I went from the unemployment line to making money online click here. I will make this promise to you. I will personally never charge you a dime for sharing the knowledge I have attained along the way. The only expenses that you will ever have are the expenses that come with an online business. Ex. Building and hosting a website, training, Etc. Ill Even show you how I cut those expenses to less than $50 a month.

I wrote starting an online business checklist to give you a head start on your business. Take all the resources I gave you and use them to guide you along the way. Good luck!
